Queer Horror: PSYCHO

  • The Hollywood Theatre 4122 Northeast Sandy Boulevard Portland, OR, 97212 United States (map)

The Hollywood Theatre’s bimonthly program QUEER HORROR checks into PSYCHO (1960)! Hosted by Portland’s premier drag clown Carla Rossi, this screening presents a new restoration of the original, unrated theatrical release including 13 seconds of excised footage (unavailable from 1960 until 2020), and opens with a preshow starring PDX all-stars Pepper Pepper and Matthew Leavitt as Toonces, all sponsored by Double Mountain Brewery and Cidery.

Directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring legendary queer actor Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates, PSYCHO finds Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) checking into the Bates Motel after stealing $40,000 from her employer. But when Marion disappears without a trace, her sister (Vera Miles), her fiance (John Gavin), and a private investigator (Martin Balsam) uncover the shocking truth behind Norman Bates and his mother. Featuring the most famous shower scene ever committed to film, an iconic score by Bernard Herrmann, and a killer queer twist, PSYCHO remains a horror masterpiece today just as it was in 1960.

NOTE: to protect our performers, masks will be required in the auditorium (except when actively eating and drinking) during this event.
